Parkinson’s Disease LSVT Big Program
Parkinson's disease is a chronic, progressive disease of the nervous system characterized by rigidity, slow movement, tremor and difficulty with posture. Approximately 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with Parkinson's disease each year. Physical therapy is a crucial element in managing Parkinson's disease. Back in Motion Physical Therapy offers the LVST BIG Program for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.LSVT BIG is an extensively researched physical therapy approach in the management of Parkinson's disease. It is based on 20 years of research from NIH funding. Studies have shown that LSVT BIG can lead to significant long lasting changes in patient's balance, gait pattern and overall function. LSVT is unique from traditional physical therapy in its high intensity and emphasis on movements with large amplitude. The LSVT BIG program takes place over the course of 16 one-on-one, hour-long sessions over the course of one month and is delivered by a LSVT BIG licensed clinician. LSVT BIG also incorporates daily homework and carryover exercises, which promotes patients to integrate the practice that they receive in the clinic into their daily life. Back in Motion Physical Therapy offers this effective physical therapy method in both their Lorton and Kingstowne Alexandria clinics. Since starting this program back in June 2015, our certified BIG therapists have seen some fantastic results.
